Abstract

Indonesia has become one of the largest soybean importing countries in the world today, because each year the amount of soybeans exported is above 1 million tons from an average of over 2 million tons. About 88 percent of that amount is used as raw material for making of tempe and tofu, 10 percent for other processed foods such as flour and starch industries and the remaining 2 percent for seeds. Most of the imported soybeans come from the United States, Argentina, Malaysia and Brazil, so the development of national soybeans, especially on a regional basis needs special attention. National soybean production in the last 40 years still relies on East Java, Central Java, NTB, West Java and Aceh. International soybean trade that occurs between Indonesia and the United States, is partly due to the independence of needs with aspects in terms of natural, human and technological resources, this factor makes soybean production inefficiently lower than the United States. The purpose of this research is to identify the causes of international soybean commodity trade between Indonesia and the United States. Data collection methods used are fundamental analysis methods, namely secondary data can be obtained from relevant agencies or from reading, studying and understanding through other media sourced from books, journals and various literatures. The results of the scavenger above show what influences the international trade in soybean commodities between Indonesia and the United States, namely, production technology, climate factors, seeds, diseases and pests. The different conditions that cause production in Indonesia and the United States differ in quality and quantity, this causes Indonesia to import soybeans from the United States.
