Abstract

Mung bean is one of the third largest types of legumes in Indonesia. Mung beans are known to have various names in each region in Indonesia. Many seed quality problems are often encountered by mung bean farmers. The low production is influenced by the decline in seed quality due to deterioration. Based on the Badan Pusat Statistik (BPS 2017) in 2016-2017, mung bean production in 2016 and 2017 have decreased in Indonesia. Mung bean production in 2017 was 243.950 tons. One of the causes of the low production is due to the low viability and vigor of mung bean seeds used in cultivation. This study aims to discover which varieties provide the best response to increasing viability, find out the right matriconditioning media for mung bean seed invigoration, discover the interaction between matriconditioning media and varieties on viability and vigor of mung bean seeds, discover the response of viability and vigor of mung bean seeds to the matriconditioning method on various types of media. This research was carried out from July to August at the Lampung State Polytechnic seed analysis laboratory in 2021. This study used a completely randomized split plot design (SPLIT-PLOT RAL) with 3 replications. The first factor was mung bean varieties (Vima 1, Vima 2, Vima 4) and the second factor was matriconditioning media (control, sawdust, husk charcoal, cocopeat powder, scouring sand). The variables observed were germination, vigor index, growth speed, growth synchronously, and electrical conductivity. The results showed that the matriconditioning invigoration treatment using husk charcoal media was the most suitable medium for mung bean seeds. The vima 4 variety was the variety that gave the best response to germination, vigor index, growth speed, and electrical conductivity
